Since 1747, a stealthy army of cats has protected the Hermitage treasures from rodents. Today almost 100 cats are in residence and on duty. A visa is required to travel to Russia and a Russian visa must be arranged in advance. An 'Invitation Letter to Russia' must also be obtained for submission with the visa application. Please note that current Russian visa regulations require a personal visit to the Russian Embassy in either London, Edinburgh or Manchester to complete the application process, which is at your own cost.
